So here’s the thing: there is no other program like this—anywhere. At Oklahoma City University, you don’t just study guitar, you lead from the very first day.

Our one-of-a-kind partnership with the Leyenda Foundation creates opportunities that simply don’t exist elsewhere: performing, researching, managing, and shaping the future of the art.

This is a program for those who are more than guitarists. It’s a place to dream and become.

  • Our students are competition winners.

  • They are engaged in groundbreaking musicological research.

  • They are hands-on in Artist-First Initiatives—producing recordings, curating concerts, and managing projects that put the artist at the center.

  • They learn Grantwriting, Arts Leadership, and Career Development, preparing for sustainable, meaningful lives in the arts.

  • They gain real-world training in nonprofit administration, festival direction, and label operations.

  • They collaborate across disciplines—with dancers, composers, orchestras, and jazz ensembles—to create performances that cross boundaries.

  • They have international opportunities through OCU’s global network, with connections in Europe and beyond.

  • They have direct access to world-class artists:

    • Classical: Los Romeros (Pepe Romero, Celin Romero, Celino Romero, Lito Romero)

    • Jazz Guitar: Mark Whitfield, Chip Henderson

    • Fingerstyle: John Knowles

    • Music Management: Susie Lamborghini

All of this happens within a community led by Matthew Denman, a Grammy-nominated educator and one of the most visionary leaders in American music education, surrounded by the best guitar faculty in the country.
